A road trip to mecca

Just a quick little video of a background technique that I love to do, using bleeding art tissue paper.  I hope you enjoy it.   It's been a fantastic weekend so far here in Krazytown!  The weather has been beautiful, the sun has been shining, the birds have been chirping... dare I say it... Spring has Sprung.   Today, I'm so excited to have finally, finally made my way to The Art House Studio.  It's like an art journaler's mecca!  The shop is bright and cheerful, there is oodles of gorgeous stencils, a plethora of pan pastels and the very talented owner Karen Ellis is absolutely, genuinely a very welcoming, and kind woman.  I wish I lived closer, but my bank account would be screaming if I did.  I picked up two TCW stencils and a bottle of Dylusions "Squeezed Orange" Ink Spray.  I am very excited to try them out.  I also might have left behind RAK #6 for Karen.    RAK #6 is on the bottom right.

Speaking of RAKs, all RAKS have been handed out, and now, I must go about making more.  I was hoping to get to making some this weekend butI have been busy with making ATC's for various swaps.  Here's one I did for a Zentangle Swap.

I hope wherever you are this weekend, that you are surrounded by love, and happiness.  Until next time,

Writing on My Heart

Mixed Media Collage

So today, I'm hitting two birds with one stone.  Aimee over at Artsyville has started Glue it Tuesdays.  Yeah for glue!  It's fun to sniff... I kid.  Uhu doesn't smell.  I recently was gifted about 200 home decor magazines via freecycle.org.  So I've been making my way through the zines page by page, cutting and tearing, and laughing hysterically at tacky '80s style home decor.  Chintz and lace... you should be shot.    *** Side note, if you have never heard of freecycle.org, check it out, sign up, and don't blame me for the addiction, its a useful tool for decluttering, it also enable collecting at the same time, you've been warned***  Also, I've been enjoying myself over at Artists in Blogland, they have a monthly feature entitled Colour this Quote.  See Linky button over there ---------->.     March's quote is by Ralph Waldo Emerson:  "Write on your heart that every day is the best day of the year."    So I sat down at my journal, glue stick and quote in hand, and went to it.    As I was happily cutting, pasting, drawing, and stamping, I was reflecting on the quote.   After the day I had yesterday, hence forward known as F@#K IT Monday, I realised that yes, Monday was sucky, and will always be sucky, but there was goodness there too.  I was able to skype with a dear friend, create some art, laugh with kids (when I wasn't yelling at them), and work further on Random Art of Kindness.   So yesterday, I have written in my heart as the best F@#K IT Monday ever!  Come what may, I will endeavour to remember that although there inevitably will be other days like Monday, every day that I'm surrounded by my Krazy family, alive and breathing is the best day of my year.    Until next time!

F@#K IT Monday!

Mixed Media Journal Page

I, Head Krazy, here by dub today, and every Monday hence forward as F@#K IT MONDAY.  From now on, when F@#K IT MONDAY comes a knockin' I solemnly swear to dress in nothing but sweat pants and a hoodie, and do nothing all day but ART.  I will not lift a laundry basket, or scrub a toilet.  Button to follow...... feel free to join me..

The day comes every week, with out fail, yet it never fails to astound me how heartbreakingly hard Mondays are for my Family.  Again and again, no matter how hard I try to prepare Littlest Krazy for the transition from weekend to school day, I am never ready for the forkery that is known as F@#K IT Mondays at my house.  It twas particularly bad this morning, as its the first day back for Little Krazy after March Holidays.  I knew it would be difficult, yet some how, I still hoped it would be different.  Call me optimistic.   It's starts right from the minute I wake him it with loud screams of GO AWAY, I DON'T LIKE YOU, and  continues on through breakfast with yells of dissatisfaction over breakfast selection.  We struggle through 20 minutes of hell known as getting dressed, only to pass through the seventh circle of damnation known as brushing of teeth.  I was particularly thankful for Mr. Krazy's presence this morning, as he was able to drive Middle Krazy to her school.   And Middle Krazy... bless her little heart, had plenty of hugs, and I love you's for your's truely, as she calmly and deftly got herself ready for school.  I try hard... really hard to understand and remember that Little Krazy is not like this because he wants to be, he never asked to have anxiety.  It just is.  But on day's like today, when it's a struggle to keep my head above water, and my sanity about me... I just wanna say.... F@#K it.

On a happier note, RAK 5 was placed today at a grocery store in Toronto on Sunday.  I giggled at the irony of the photo I took as I looked at it this morning, which I didn't notice at the time I was taking the picture.  "Take home a little amazing".   I hope this little piece of amazing was taken home, and brightened someone's day!

Rak 3 and RAK 4

RAKs 3 and 4 went out today. Number Three went to a local Walmart, and middle Krazy hid number four at a local shopping centre. My middle crazy, who will be 11 in April, has asked to make some RAK's of her own! I am so glad that she has been inspired by the idea. We had much fun plotting where to put number four... In the end she decided to put it on a shelf ledge. Didn't have a camera to take photos this time, but will try to remember for future RAKs.

The first Random Art of Kindness

Today, I placed the first two RAKs at a local art gallery. I'm very excited. I hope they are found and make someone smile. The picture is of the first one I placed. I'm looking forward to placing more, and posting about my adventures.!!

The Random Art of Kindness

Mixed Media Collage

Well, I've done it!  I've decided to create Random Art of Kindness(RAK).   I am so super excited about my little idea.  I'm really hoping it will blossom.  I have visions of little pieces of art work brightening people's day the whole world over!  Tomorrow, I'm going to place my first Random Art Cards for people to find at the local art centre where I work.  I'm giddy like a kid on Christmas.  Art has brought me such joy, and happiness, and connected me to so many wonderful people that I wanted to share that feeling, and pay-it-forward.  If you are visiting my blog, please visit the RAK page, and if you are so inclined, grab a button, share the love and your stories of random acts of kindness, art related or otherwise.

My first attempt at Peg People!

Up until this past summer,  I never realized what I was doing in my sketchbooks was called art journaling.   With the realization that there was a term for what I had been doing innately since college, I excitedly dove right in.  I've spent hours on pinterest, on websites and on youtube, learning, reading and collecting.   Art journaling led me to making ATC's or Art Trading Cards, which has further helped me grow as an artist.  I started to journal in earnest this summer as a way to combat my depression and anxiety.  Something I live with daily, and control with the help of medication and art.  This blog too, came to fruition as a way to process my thoughts, and perhaps reach out to others in my art.   Joining the community at Artjournaling.ning and atcsforall was a no-brainer in terms of finding like minded people.  What I didn't expect was the depth of caring and friendship my participation in these sites would bring to my life.    Over at artjournaling.ning I made a unique connection to a woman who lives an ocean away.  We exchanged Art Cards (which led me to ATCSforAll), then exchanged facebook pages, from there we exchanged goodies via mail, then skype, and now, now I can't imagine my life with out my dear friend in it.  I look forward to our skype chats like a drowning person craves oxygen.  She is my soul sister.  Over at ATCSforAll, I am amazed by the generousity and spirit of women and men as they share and trade pieces of themselves daily.   People from all walks of life, all different backgrounds and levels of art training have come together to form a supportive and encouraging community.    Recently I was the recipient of a RAK, or random act of Kindness from a woman on the ATCforall Site.  This lovely woman found my blog through the ATC site and paid me a visit.   After reading through my blog, she contacted me and asked if she could send me some things for art journaling because she felt something good should come my way.    I was awed, overwhelmed, touched and inspired.   Sure enough a week or so later came this envelope of goodies from this amazing woman chock full of goodies for me to use in my journal.  How amazing is the world we live in that we can touch the lives of people who live so far away with the single touch of a button.   I have an idea, it's not a new idea, but it's an idea I am excited about, something I hope to post on here soon.  It's a way to touch and inspire others in ways that have inspired me.  I hope you will continue to check back in for further development.   Until  then,

Sunday 3 March 2013

So I think I am finally getting the hang of making videos. The quality is poor, the shadow of my head is in the way, but the gist of the idea is there. Each time it gets a little bit easier, and I learn something new. Lol.    Working on a new outline for art journaling class in the fall.  If you were to take an art journaling class what would you look for?  Not much else to yammer on about today.  If you've popped in, don't be shy, say hi!
